Clips, Apple's free video creation app, has been updated to add enhancements and a few interesting new features that will make it more useful to iOS users.
The new update makes it easier for users to share slideshows, mini movies, personal video messages and school projects, Apple Insider noted. Those who don't have the app yet can download it from the App Store for free. Here's what's new with the update:
Animoji and Memoji
With the update, users will now be able to record clips as their favorite Animoji, including owl, unicorn, dragon Animojis and more. Memojis created the iOS Messages app will also appear in Clips automatically, and can be used to create videos as well.
Users who suddenly change their mind about the Memoji or Animoji they use during creating videos, or would simply want to try how that video looks like when a different Animoji is used, can change them after they record the video.
What's more, users can also apply filters and add layers of animated texts, stickers and more on top of using Memojis or Animojis. They can also add music to the video.
Stickers and a new Poster
The update adds seven new stickers, featuring classic illustrations of Disney's Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. It also adds the new “Let It Snow” poster perfect for winter-themed videos.
Apple said Clips now allows users to track any sticker, text or emoji to their faces so that these elements can follow their movements on the screen. The feature will be available when creating selfie videos, and will make use of the iPhone and iPad's front-facing cameras.
This feature will require later iPhone or iPad models with the TrueDepth camera. Those who use the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro to create selfie videos will be able to fit more in the frame thanks to the selfie camera's wider field of view.
Without specifying which, Apple said the new update includes performance and stability improvements to the app.
It's available now
Clips, which was released in 2017, is compatible with the iPhone SE, iPhone 6s (and newer), iPad Air 2 (or newer) and the seventh-gen iPod Touch. These devices need to run on iOS 13 or iPadOS 13.
